Mildred Lori (Anderson) Thompson
Lori Thompson, 61, died suddenly September 26, 2015 at her home in Bristow, Va. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday 10 a.m. at Pierce’s Funeral Home in Manassas, Va., Pastor Craig Burns officiating. The family will receive visitors starting at 9 a.m.
An Arkansas Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 10th at 1 p.m. at The Church Of Christ, 504 Brooks Ave, Harrisburg, Ark. 72432.
Mildred Loraine Anderson was born December 20, 1953 in Marvell Arkansas the daughter of Mildred Charlene Anderson and was the eldest of 13 children. She was raised and attended schools in Charleston, Miss. As a very young woman Mildred adopted her nickname of Lori and ventured off alone on a multi-state and multi-year journey ending in 1975 when she arrived in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington DC where she made her home for the next 40 years.
Initially, Lori held various positions in the restaurant business and then worked as a customer service representative and outside sales for a couple of the DC metro areas largest transportation companies. For a number of years she co-owned and drove a taxi cab and later owned and operated a maid/cleaning service. Lori ended her working career as a cafeteria cook for Fairfax County Public Schools.
It took a very special woman with abundant courage and self determination to forge a new life and future in a distant location 1000+ miles from her mother, 12 younger siblings and her Anderson associated families … whom she always missed dearly … as well as giving up the comfort of the Mississippi and Arkansas areas she called home.
Lori enjoyed researching her family genealogy, gardening, fishing, knitting and crocheting, was an avid reader, loved following her daughters’ athletic careers and volunteering when called on. She was a loyal and steadfast fan of the Washington Nationals. The 2013 arrival of her grandson “Deuce” quickly became her (Mimi’s) number 1 priority and pride and joy!
Lori is survived by her husband John Thompson of Bristow, daughter Margaret Thompson Dooley and son-in-law Paul Dooley of Fredericksburg, daughter Victoria Thompson of Bristow, grandson Paul “Deuce” Dooley Jr., four sisters: Linda Hall, Judy Miller, Delores Shaw, Marsha Lash and five brothers: Ricky White, Johnny White, Kenneth White, Jeremy White and Chris White, and many nieces and nephews.
Lori always felt a special relationship with her Northern Virginia-based Thompson family in-laws and created and enjoyed many fond memories and much reciprocal love over the past 35 years.
She was predeceased by her mother Charlene White, brothers Claude “Buddy” White, and twins Gary White and Larry White.
The family much appreciates all the kindness, support and prayers that have been received during the past three and a half years and the wonderful care from the numerous doctors, nurses and medical providers that helped Lori battle her cancer with grace, dignity and much personal strength.
