Manassas Park City Hall closed during construction, workers sickened

The Manassas Park City Hall will close temporarily after some employees reported becoming nauseous.
The roof of city hall is being replaced to the tune of about $200,000. The work was planned, but the building was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

Here’s more in an email from City Manager Kimberly Alexander:

The work was planned, however there have been unforeseen conditions associated with the work that were unexpected, most significantly a strong odor/fumes from the glue used on the roof, which has caused some headaches and nausea among various employees. Additionally, we had some debris fall through the ceiling tiles in an office. For the safety of our employees and customers, the office closure is necessary…we are currently relocating employees, and we will have final disposition of the relocation next week.

The work should continue for about a month, according to Alexander.

City Hall is expected to reopen Monday, September 14. Some city offices may be relocated, however.

We’ll update you when we have more information.
