Wittman Announces 2015 Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) invites high school students from Virginia’s First District to participate in the 2015 Congressional Art Competition.  The theme for this year’s competition is “Virginia the Beautiful.” All artwork is due by April 8, 2015, and can be submitted to any of Wittman’s congressional office locations.

“The Congressional Art Competition provides a great opportunity for aspiring artists to hone their skills and showcase their talent,” Wittman said. “I look forward to seeing all of the impressive entries that feature the beauty of our Commonwealth from the next generation of local artists.

Each spring, a high school arts competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute and by each Member of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.

All high school students are eligible to enter. The winning entry from the First District will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Artists must fill out and submit a student information and release form along with the artwork. The original piece of art must not exceed 28” high x 28” wide x 4” deep and cannot weigh more than 15 pounds.  More rules and details can be found on the official Congressional Art Competition website. Those with additional questions or inquiries should email [email protected] or call (202) 225-4261

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
