Project Mend-A-House to host “Spring Into Health Fair” on March 21

January, 2015, Project Mend-A-House (PMAH) will hold it’s first Spring Into Health Fair on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Hylton Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington on 5070 Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge. This free event is a great opportunity for residents of the Prince William Region to check in on their health and ask questions in a no-pressure environment.

The Spring Into Health Fair will feature over 10 free health screenings and assessments including a series of fall risk screening tools. Workshops will be given on a variety of health topics, from anxiety and depression to concussions and sports medicine. There will be activities, prizes and demonstrations for the whole family including a chance to win one of five $100 VISA gift cards!

PMAH has always been about neighbors helping neighbors. In keeping with that spirit, the Spring Into Health Fair is a joint venture among community partners leveraging the talents and resources of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club. Business sponsors include Emeritus Senior Living, Potomac Place Assisted Living, the Vascular Institute of Virginia, and Right at Home. Additional sponsorships are available.

“As part of the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs we strive to ensure that all of our youth learn the skills needed to lead healthy lifestyles. The Spring Into Health Fair gives us the opportunity to broaden our reach with a holistic approach to educating families about health and wellness. We are truly excited about this opportunity to work with the Chamber’s Health & Wellness Council and Project Mend-A-House on this great event.” said Carolyn?

The health fair originated from a grant by the Potomac Health Foundation for PMAH to provide fall risk assessments to the community. Seeing this as an opportunity, PMAH approached the Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club about expanding the scope of the health fair to make it a more comprehensive event with a broader focus. The event is a new model of collaboration for the Prince William Chamber.

“The Prince William Chamber is eager to collaborate with Project Mend-A-House and the Hylton Boys & Girls Club on this new regional health fair.  This event offers an opportunity to fulfill the mission of the Chamber’s Health and Wellness Council, to promote wellness within the workplace by connecting businesses and individuals with preventative measures and services available to improve health and the quality of life.  This is a win-win- win for our area.” Said Debbie Jones, President & CEO, Prince William Chamber of Commerce.

A volunteer committee of over a dozen health and senior care providers, including Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center and Novant Health Prince William Medical Center, has come together to help plan the event. Jodie Houser, the Project Mend-A-House Community Connections Coordinator, is chair of the committee.

“We are so excited to present the Spring Into Health Fair. By partnering with the Prince William Chamber of Commerce and the Boys & Girls Club, we will be able to increase the number of people who will be empowered to take control of their health and improve their lives.” said Jennifer Schock-Bolles, Executive Director of PMAH, “We are grateful to our community collaborators for helping with this event. Their hard work and enthusiasm has been fantastic.”
