Dog gets stuck on roof, Manassas police called to rescue

A police officer and a animal control officer went to help a dog off a roof.

The Manassas City 911 dispatch reported they received a call about a dog on a roof. Two officers from the city’s police department were sent to the area of Cockrell Road and Corporate Circle about 5:30 p.m. There they helped the owners of the large dog off a roof.

The owners of the dog were seen taking the animal back to its home on a leash. The owners were also carrying a large ladder.

In 2013, the city’s Animal Control Unit consisted of two officers. It was called to 1,711 calls for help that year. The most common reason for the call: dogs running loose, according to the city’s crime annual crime statistics report.

A busy night in the neighborhood, fire and rescue personnel were called to a home nearby Cockrell Road for a report of a burning pot that had been left on a stove, according to police spokeswoman Adrienne Helms.
