Residents who live in the 900 block of Burke Drive at the intersection of Fitzhugh Lane say pools of water form on the newly paved streets.

The Prince William Service Authority recently completed the installation of about 16,000 feet of new water pipe line in the area at cost of $4 million. More than 400 homes will benefit from the replacement of old and rusting pipes that dated back more than 50 years.

Once the pipes were replaced, the streets were repaved. And then neighbors started noticing water on the street.

The service authority did investigate the problem but didn’t find any leaky pipes.

“The ponding on the road is not related to the Service Authority’s work in the Belmont community. It is driven by a high water table in the community’s topography,” stated service authority spokesman Keenan Howell in an email.

Howell said the conclusion was reached after the Service Authority completed an extensive investigation into the situation on Burke Drive.
