A gas leak promoted the evacuation of a high school and closed a major road in Woodbridge.
A portion of Smoketown Road at Gar-Field Senior High School is closed at this hour. Students at the high school have been evacuated to the parking lot in front of T.J. Maxx at Potomac Mills mall due to the leak.
School officials say all children are safe, and issued this statement:
Officials have expanded the precautionary evacuation of Gar-Field HS due to a gas line repair in the area. All are safe but being moved to the TJ Maxx parking lot. Students—and GRAD program pre-schoolers—may be picked up there. The activity bus will pick up students there at 4 p.m. All athletics activities and Adult Ed classes are canceled. ?
