The Prince William County GOP will be doing their last community service project of 2014 – collecting food at the Haymarket Food Bank, to help with food needs for the Thanksgiving holiday.
More information from a PWC GOP press release:
The Bull Run Republican Womenâs Club is leading a community service project this month to benefit the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry. The Club is continuing the Prince William County Republican Committeeâs focus on community service by collecting donated nonperishable food items for needy families in Western Prince William County. This service project will be the tenth and final Committee community service project for 2014.
Participants can drop off their donations at the next monthly Prince William County Republican Committee meeting on Monday, November 24, at 7:30pm, at Benton Middle School. Donations can also be dropped off before November 25 at the Office of Gainesville Supervisor Pete Candland (7001 Heritage Village Plaza, Suite 210, Gainesville, VA 20155) during the weekday between 9am-5pm, or at the Prince William County Republican Committee headquarters (4431 Prince William Pkwy, Woodbridge, VA 22192) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am-4pm. Any County resident can participate in the project, regardless of political affiliation.
âEven in a region that has as much wealth as northern Virginia, there are still many families who are in need this holiday season,â said Chairman Bill Card. âWeâre proud to support the great work of the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry, as they continue to help some of our neighbors who may be going through a rough time.â
Card continued, âThis project is the conclusion of a very successful Community Service Initiative for the Prince William Republican Committee. This Initiative has provided us a way to serve the community and live out our principles of service, compassion and private sector solutions.â
On February 22nd, the Prince William Republican Committee announced its new Community Service Initiative during its annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. So far, the Committee has conducted two food bank collections with Streetlight Ministries in Woodbridge (February/June), and a clothing collection with B.A.R.N. transitional housing in Bristow, led by the Bull Run Republican Womenâs Club (March). The Committee has also conducted an emergency items collection for SERVE, Inc in Manassas (April), and has assisted with Supervisor Pete Candlandâs âWalk for Prince William,â which benefited five County food banks (May).
On June 21st, the Committee performed two community service projects for a âDay of Summer Serviceâ, with ACTS Homeless Shelter in Dumfries and the Bull Run Wounded Warrior Retreat in Haymarket. In August, the Committee partnered with the Prince William County Education Foundation to conduct a back-to-school supply drive for two schools in Woodbridge, Fred Lynn Middle School and Elizabeth Vaughn Elementary School.Â

Mike Berryman vividly recalls freezing nights in his prison cell, where the cold was so intense he could sometimes see his breath. On humid nights, he said, ice would form on the walls. By summer, the opposite was true â his cell became stifling, leaving him drenched in sweat, reports The Virginia Mercury.
Kings Dominion, the popular amusement park near Richmond, has announced that it will not be hosting its annual Winterfest event for 2025, despite earlier assurances to season pass holders. WinterFest, a festive holiday event that traditionally featured a dazzling light show, live performances, a petting zoo, and the opportunity to ride the park’s signature roller coasters, has been a seasonal favorite for years.
The cancellation, confirmed by WWBT-TV, comes after the event mysteriously did not appear on the parkâs annual event schedule, which was released on Wednesday, January 29. Initially, Kings Dominion promised that admission to WinterFest would be included with the purchase of a 2025 season pass. The sudden absence of the event raised concerns among fans, prompting the park to address the matter publicly.
The ongoing debate over the construction of data centers in Fredericksburg took center stage during the City Council meeting on January 28, 2025, with residents and council members expressing mounting concerns about the potential environmental consequences and the lack of transparency in the approval process.
At the heart of the controversy is the city’s aggressive timeline for approving zoning changes and facilitating the development of new data centers. Local residents have voiced their concerns about the environmental impact of such large-scale projects, particularly in areas close to residential neighborhoods and natural resources like the Rappahannock River. While proponents argue that data centers could bring significant economic benefits, critics worry that the city is rushing to approve projects without fully understanding or addressing the long-term consequences.
Hamilton Palmer, a Fredericksburg resident, raised alarms about the transparency of the decision-making process. At the meeting, Palmer expressed frustration over the councilâs handling of the issue, particularly regarding releasing information about the proposed data centers. âThere has been little effort by the city to engage the public on data centers until this past year,â Palmer said, emphasizing that many residents are still unclear about the full scope of the projects and their potential impact on the community.
