Community invited to take part in “mall-o-ween”
Potomac Mills is offeringWashington, D.C.-area ghouls and boys two fun-filled opportunities to celebrate Halloween this season! The Simon Kidgits Clubwill presents its annual Halloween Extravaganza event on Thursday Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. â 11 a.m. at Court near Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH. Then, on Friday, October 31, the community is invited to take part in Mall-o-ween, a family friendly trick-or-treating alternative.
âPotomac Mills is the perfect place for families looking for Halloween entertainment in a fun, safe community environment,â said Sam Hosn, general manager for Potomac Mills. âWhether kids want to show-off their new costume or take home some Halloween-themed crafts, there is an activity, here, to suit superheroes, princesses and not-so-scary monsters. Mall-o-ween is one of our most popular Simon Kidgits Club programs.â
This year, the Simon Kidgits Club will recognize October as Bully Prevention Month in association with âMalls & Retailers Unite Against Bullyingâ and Captain McFinn, a proprietary role model, who promotes social and emotional development in children through live virtual playdates, online games, apps and resources for parents and teachers. Families will be encouraged to download
The Bully Free Zone, a free app released by Captain McFinn, filled with fun, educational activities, a new McFinn cartoon and a chance for families to win a free iPad Air.
Families who download the app can sign the Bully Free pledge and help spread the word about bully prevention. With the Kindness Calendar app feature, children and parents can spread the good word via prompts to complete acts of kindness. Once an act is completed, it is tracked in the Kindness feed. The more kind acts that are accomplished, the more badges children and their parents receive.
Potomac Mills will have several activities for children to enjoy including a Halloween craft station, free treats from Starbucks, Ben and Jerryâs and Moeâs Southwest Grill and a special performance by Louis the Magician. Kidgits members will also receive Halloween glow necklaces.
In addition, Potomac Mills will host Mall-o-ween, a mall-wide trick-or-treating event on Friday, October 31 from 6:00 p.m. â 8:00 p.m. For added fun, guests will also have their choice of face painting or balloon art*. Participating retailers will have a Halloween sticker in their window.

After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MDâs change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,â he explains. âAchieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.â
Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. âI believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.â Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, âMy patients know Iâm always just a phone call away.â
