Mary “Molly” Payne Fettig passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 20th. She was a devoted mom, Grammy, sister, wife, daughter and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her.
She was born on July 22nd, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio where she spent her childhood. She attended the University of Dayton, graduating in 1960, and remained an avid UD fan and proud Flyerette throughout her life. In addition to UD sports, Molly loved watching college football, basketball and soccer, and above all, any sport her kids and grandkids played. She loved to travel, living throughout the US from Hawaii to Camp LeJeune, NC and visiting many countries in Europe.
Much of Molly’s life revolved around her love and compassion for children. She was a beloved kindergarten teacher for nearly twenty years at Aquinas School in Woodbridge, VA. Later, she helped countless children and their families as a social worker in the Florida Keys. Molly was an extraordinary mother and grandmother, putting her family’s happiness above all else.
Throughout her life, Molly gathered a collection of dear friends, from the “Ladies of the Home” who met in grade school in Dayton to the Jetton Park Walking Group in Cornelius. Everywhere Molly lived, she made lasting friendships with neighbors, coworkers and fellow parishioners.
Molly enjoyed baking, gardening and dessert with every meal. She took great pleasure in decorating her home and entertaining around the holidays.
She had profound faith which she truly lived every day. She was actively involved in several parishes throughout her life, serving as a Eucharistic minister and volunteering wherever needed.
Molly was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents Mary and Robert Payne, and her brother Robert Payne. She is survived by her daughter Cathy Conger, her sons Bill, Craig and Kyle Conger and her grandchildren Chase Conger, Christian Conger, Reilly Webb, Brennan Conger, Nora Webb and Savanna Conger. She is also survived by her sisters Barbara Koerner and Sally Martino, and her brother Tom Payne.

Should Virginia ditch the longstanding practice of electing the General Assembly and the governor in odd year elections?
The first odd year election in Virginia was in 1851, after a new state Constitution was approved and members of the House were elected to a two-year term. Before that, members of the House had one-year terms, and voters selected members every single year.
Now, Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell says modern day voters are sick and tired of voting every year.
A Manassas man was sentenced today to 18 years in prison for providing drugs and alcohol to a child in exchange for sex acts and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) depicting the same victim as well as other children.
According to court documents, Olajide Benjamin Ayilaran, 24, met a 14-year-old girl during the summer of 2023 and began communicating with the victim via iMessage. In the messages, Ayilaran offered to provide the victim drugs, alcohol, and nicotine products in exchange for sex acts. Between at least Nov. 21, 2023, and Feb. 29, 2024, Ayilaran met the victim nine times, usually in the morning before the victim went to school, to exchange the products for sexual acts. Ayilaran would wait for the victim in his car in a nearby park. When the victim arrived, he gave her the drugs and alcohol and then had the victim perform sex acts on him in the car.
