Kmart Store in Dale City to Close

Kmart store in Dale City closing, 69 workers affected

The Kmart store in Dale City will close before Christmas. The store employs a total of 69 workers.

A spokesman for Sears Holdings, the parent company of Kmart, told Potomac Local this:

The Kmart store in Woodbridge will close to the public in early December. Until then, the store will remain open for customers.

The store will begin its liquidation sale on September 28.  Store closures are part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model.

These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home.

The store has 69 employees. Those associates that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.

Most of the associates are part time/hourly.

This Kmart store, built in 1980, predates Potomac Mills mall which opened five years later, as well as much of the new retail construction at nearby Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center.

Last year, Kmart stores closed their Manassas location on Sudley Road.

The store is expected to close on or about Dec. 7.

There are still plans to build the Americans in Wartime Museum behind the Kmart store.
