McGee Stepping Down as ACTS Deputy Director

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — More changes are coming to the leadership at ACTS.

Rebecca McGee, who has served as deputy director of the charitable organization for the past nine years, will leave the beginning of October. She’s moving to Arizona with her husband to be closer to her parents who relocated there in May.

“Leaving will be bittersweet. ACTS has been a part of my life for nine years, it’s a apart of my family and I think it’s part of who we are when we work there – you kind of eat, sleep and breathe the mission,” said McGee.

Moving out west was not part of her original plan. It’s something that “just happened,” she said, after she “fell in love” with the area when visiting her parents earlier this year.

McGee’s departure will mean Board Members at ACTS will need to search for two key leadership positions. Earlier this year, ACTS Executive Director Frances Harris left the organization and Barbara DeChene, who worked under Prince William County Woodbridge District Supervisor Frank Principi, took over on an interim basis. McGee said they will now also begin a search for her interim replacement.

She says she’s leaving the organization in “good hands” and that she’ll miss working with people in the community. She’ll also stay involved in our community remotely while retaining her position on the newly formed Greater Prince William Food Council.

“Just because I’m moving doesn’t mean I no longer care,” she said.

ACTS was formed in 1969 when 13 area churches came together with the mission of helping others. The Dumfries-based organization helps residents in Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park, and claims to be the first organization to create Prince William’s first food bank.
