Dog, Puppy Killed after Argument Between Man, Woman in Dumfries

DUMFRIES, Va. — An argument between a man and a woman led to a dog and puppy stabbed to death, and another puppy seriously injured.

Here’s more in a press release:

Felony Animal Cruelty | Domestic Assault & Battery – On July 21st at 8:45AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 17700 block of Confederate Ct in the Town of Dumfries (22026) to investigate a domestic with weapons. Officers arrived at the home and identified both parties. The victim, a 29 year old woman of Dumfries, reported to police that she and the accused, a known acquaintance, were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated.

During the encounter, the accused assaulted and pushed the victim. At one point, the accused took a phone and threw it against a sliding glass door, causing it to shatter. After the parties had separated, the victim attempted to gather her belongings and leave the home. At that point, the victim stated she witnessed the accused use a kitchen knife to stab her dog.

Officers checked the home and located an adult male pit bull deceased with a stab wound to its back. Officers also located two, 2-week old pit bull puppies, one of which was also deceased and the other was critically injured. Both puppies appeared to have sustained blunt force trauma.

The injured puppy was immediately taken to an area animal hospital for treatment. Three other puppies and an adult female pit bull were also located in the home and appeared to be unharmed. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested. The investigation continues into the cause of death for the puppy pending the results of a necropsy.

Additional charges against the accused are pending.
