KJ Mushung, a reporter and copy editor for Potomac Local News, has won nine state press awards for work published in 2013.
The awards were given this year by the Virginia Press Women and the National Federation for Press Women for excellence in communications.
Mushung won first place for articles in science and technology, for online news, for writing for the web, and for website edited or managed by entrant. Mushung won second place in the single photograph category and third place for specialty articles. She was given honorable mention for humorous columns, continuous news coverage, and photography.
