Maria (Mer) Elena Alexander, 58, of Woodbridge Va., passed away March 30, 2014. Maria was born on June 1, 1955 in Nyack, NY to the late Rafael A. Velez Sr. and the late Claudette Parker Velez.
Maria loved to travel, cook, bake and read, most of all she loved her family. Maria touched many lives and was loved by many; her smile would light up a room.
Maria was a native New Yorker, moving to Virginia in 1978, where she made a home for her family.
Maria is survived by her husband, Andra Tyrone Alexander Sr., her three children, Andra Tyrone Alexander Jr., his wife Sonya and their four children Isabelle, Shareef, Ravyn and Amare (GA), Ricardo Xavier Alexander and Mercedes Elena Alexander (VA), her sisters and brother Carmen I. Velez (VA), Ricardo Velez and his wife Shana (NY), Barbara A. Velez (VA) Doris Thacker and her husband Stacy (OH) and Azalia Velez-Nin and her husband Antonio(NY). Maria is also survived by her maternal aunt and uncle Barbara Eaton and Morris Parker (NY), paternal aunts Doris Velez and Edna Acevedo (NY) and paternal uncles Ramon and Jose Velez (PR). Maria is pre-deceased by her brother and sister Rafael A. Velez Jr. and Dionisia Velez. She also leaves to mourn her a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and a numerous amount of friends.
