Joseph James Woods, 79, of Woodbridge, VA. died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 29, 2014.
Joe was born June 27, 1934 to the late Joseph George and Mary R. Woods in Arlington, MA. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars giving 23 years to his country in the U.S. Air Force. During this time, he was appointed to the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was awarded several citations including the Bronze Star for meritorious service. After his military retirement, Joe worked for 23 years as a Supervisor for Northern Virginia Community College. He received an Emeritus Award after retirement from NOVA in 2003. Joe was a loving husband, devoted father, and grandfather. He enjoyed stamp & coin collecting and civil war relic hunting.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rosamond ‘Rose’ Woods; his daughter, Jacqueline Mary Hayes, her husband, Steve and their son Riley of Manassas, VA; and his son, Joseph George Woods, his wife Cathy and their daughter, Stephanie Rose of Woodbridge VA.
Family and friends will be received at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191 on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 6-8pm. A life celebration service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:00am. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
