Dumfries Plans Tree Lighting, Parade to Celebrate 2013 Holidays

DUMFRIES, Va. — There will be several ways to ring in the holiday season in Dumfries this year.

The town has planned their 39th-annual Christmas-Holiday Parade, a tree lighting ceremony, and music. More in a press release:

Tree lighting

The Town of Dumfries will be spreading Holiday Cheer, during the month of December! On December 7, the Town will be holding its annual Christmas Tree Lighting! The event will take place in front of Town Hall, located at 17755 Main Street, from 5pm-6pm. During the event, youth will be read a holiday story by Mayor Foreman, will enjoy holiday songs from the Dumfries Elementary Chorus, as well as delight in the joyous melodies from the Quantico Marine Band’s Saxophone Quartet!

“This year, we’ve decided to have the community help us, by not only decorating the Town Tree, but using their creativity to decorate an ornament, to place on the tree! We have a few hundred clear ornaments at Town Hall, and encourage anyone participating in the Lighting, to stop by between now, and December 6th, to take one home to be decorated, and to bring it with them on the 7th, to place on the tree! We’re excited to see the unique ornaments created by the community!”-Cydny A. Neville, Director of Community Services who is in charge of planning all of the events!

Concert

On December 10th, we welcome the community to join us for a brief concert from the Quantico Marine Band’s Trombone Quartet! They will be spreading holiday cheer, through music, in front of Town Hall at 6:30pm, prior to the Council Meeting.

Parade

The Town will be holding its “Annual Christmas-Holiday Parade” on December 14th! The event begins at noon, and is sure to be a treat for all who attend!

The parade route runs down Main Street (U.S. 1 south) to Fraley Boulevard (U.S. 1 north).

Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance at the tree lighting and parade. More volunteers for the parade are needed, and are asked to contact Director of Community Services Cydny Neville at 703.221.3400 ext.144.
