DUMFIRES, Va. — Seven people were displaced from their home Saturday night in Dumfries.
A fire ripped through a bedroom at 3830 Dominion Drive injuring one person. Sources told Potomac Local News the homeowner suffered burns on his hands and was flown to an area hospital for treatment.
Officials received a 911 call for help at 7:11 p.m. Saturday and then raced to the home. Fire and rescue units saw smoke billowing from a bedroom window, and then flames shoot from the house after crews began their attack.
“This [incident] is really minor, what we call ‘room and contents,’” said Dumfries Volunteer Fire Department Asst. Chief Nick Nanna.
Several crews from Dominion Virginia Power were called following the fire. Dumfries police were also on the scene.
The Red Cross was initially called in to help, however, the displaced family had relatives in the area in which they will take shelter with while the home is repaired, according to Nanna.
