1 Charged after Woman Dead, Child Badly Injured in Sunday Morning Crash

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A 19-year-old woman faces charges of child neglect after a woman was killed and a 4-year-old boy severely injured in a car crash over the weekend.

Four of the nine people inside the vehicle were ejected when it crashed and had to be flown to a hospital.

Crash – Fatality – On October 6th at 4:08AM, the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Dumfries Rd and Toddsbury Ln in Manassas (20112) to investigate a single vehicle crash.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2004 Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Dumfries Rd in the area above when the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and rolled multiple times before landing on its roof down an embankment.

As a result of the roll, 4 occupants of the vehicle were ejected. The investigation further revealed that the vehicle was occupied by nine passengers (including the driver). Five of those occupants were not wearing seatbelts or a proper restraint device at the time of the crash, including a 4 year old boy.

The crash resulted in four passengers having to be flown out for their injuries, one of those passengers later died at the hospital. Three additional occupants were also subsequently transported to an area hospital.

The 4 year old boy sustained significant injuries, all other surviving occupants of vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries. Speed, alcohol, and drug use are not believed to be factors in the crash at this time. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured during the collision. Following the investigation, the driver was arrested in connection to the crash.

Alejandra Valeri ESPINOZA-VELASQUEZ, 19, of 7708 Hoadly Rd in Manassas

Charged with 2 counts of felony child neglect, 2 counts of felony injure the health of a child, 1 count of reckless driving, and 1 count of failure to secure a child in a safety seat

Court date: December 6, 2013 | Bond: $10,000 secured bond

The passenger killed in the crash has been identified as Doris AUCAPINA-ESPINOZA, 43, of Rockwood, NY – was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected

Other occupants of the vehicle included:

A 39 year old man of Woodbridge – was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, flown out

A 49 year old man of Lindenhurst, NY – was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, flown out

A 4 year old boy of Woodbridge – was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, flown out

A 36 year old man of Brooklyn, NY – was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured, transported

A 38 year old woman of Woodbridge – was wearing a seatbelt and was injured, transported

A 6 year old boy of Woodbridge – was properly secured and was injured, transported

A 17 year old male of Woodbridge – was wearing a seatbelt and was treated at the scene
