In Memoriam: Mary Augustine ‘Gussie’ Cornwell

MARY AUGUSTINE “GUSSIE” CORNWELL age 88 passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at her home in Manassas, VA.

She was born on February 1, 1925 in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late Robert and Della (Jackson) Mizell. Mrs. Cornwell along with her late husband Emory were the founders of Cornwell’s Texaco in Manassas, a business which has operated for over 59 years. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping, music and loved her family.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Emory Cornwell.

Survivors include her five children: Ronnie Cornwell and wife Anna Marie of Manassas, VA, Barbara Cornwell of Manassas, VA, Donna Cornwell of Spotsylvania, VA, Debbie Vandyke and husband Larry of Manassas, VA and Steve Cornwell and wife Christine of Lexington, KY; five grandchildren: Lisa Ritter, Vicki Wolfington, Greg Cornwell, Melony Hayes and Katie Vandyke. Also surviving are six great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of flowers or donations to: American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or American Cancer Society, 124 Park Street, S.E., Vienna, VA 22180 in loving memory of Gussie Cornwell.
