SHARE Packages on Sale Through 5 p.m. Monday

MANASSAS, Va. – The nonprofit humanitarian organization House of Mercy will accept August SHARE food orders until 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. That’s the next deadline in the nonprofit program that House of Mercy joined this year to make nutritious food available at low cost to local families.

Orders for August must be picked up Saturday, Aug. 24, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the agency, located at 8170 Flannery Court in Manassas.

As part of SHARE’s nonprofit food network, the House of Mercy offers the food packages at about half the price families would pay in a grocery store, and anyone can buy. SHARE (Self Help And Resource Exchange) is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington.

The August menu includes three packages: the “Value Package” and “Labor Day Grill Box,” each for $22, and the “Fully Cooked Turkey Breast,” for $18.

The “Value Package” contains 1.6 pounds of chicken drums; five jumbo, smoked grilling sausages; 1 pound each of pollock fillets, ground beef and Green Giant® “rice medley”; four chicken sausage biscuits and 8 to 9 pounds of fresh, summer produce.

The “Labor Day Grill Box” includes two 6-ounce choice sirloin steaks and two 6-ounce boneless pork chops, along with 1 pound each of ground beef, premium Italian sausage and IQF chicken breast.

The “Fully Cooked Turkey Breast” package consists of two 3.25-pound fully cooked, USDA Grade “A” boneless turkey breasts, totaling 6.5 pounds of turkey. The package would retail for $7.50 per pound, or $48.75, according to the SHARE menu.

Orders include a $2 surcharge per package to cover transportation costs. The House of Mercy receives no profit from the sale of SHARE packages.

Unless paying by credit or debit card, you must place your SHARE order in person at the House of Mercy, which accepts Visa, MasterCard and Discover, cash, food stamps, EBT and money orders. No checks are accepted.
