Manassas BATtle 7U Baseball Triumphs Again

The Manassas BATtle 7U baseball team followed its success a week ago in Varina with an undefeated weekend to win the 7U division championship at the 9th Annual Dog Days of Summer Tournament hosted by the Greater Manassas Baseball League (GMBL).

Playing four games over a span of three days, Aug 2-4, the BATtle didn’t lose on their way to a second straight championship weekend. They easily won their first game on Friday against the Mt. Vernon Patriots by a score of 14-4. They followed that success with a nail-biter against the Varina All-Stars, pulling off a 14-12 win after coming back from an early 5-0 deficit. They wrapped up pool play on Sunday with a dominating 26-2 performance against the Manassas Blue & Grey.

The Sunday afternoon championship game found the BATtle facing a familiar opponent in Varina. Behind a strong defense that turned two double-plays in the first two innings, the BATtle took the championship by a final score of 9-5, beating Varina for a fourth time this summer and a sixth win in a row dating back to last summer.

The 4-0 weekend followed on the heels of an undefeated July, when the BATtle went 8-0. The Dog Days championship was the culmination of a hugely successful summer campaign during which the 7U BATtle took second place in the 8U division of the Annual Memorial Day Tournament at GMBL; handed eventual Cal Ripken District 8 champion Stafford their only loss during 8U district play in mid-June; seeded second with an undefeated showing at the rain-shortened Killer B’s tournament in Medford, NJ; and took home the championship at the Varina Youth Sports Invitational.

Next up for the Manassas BATtle, following a well-deserved three week break, is the kick-off to their fall season with the Lumber Day tournament over Labor Day weekend and the start of a successful fall season within the Northern Virginia Travel Baseball League.

As always, the Manassas BATtle would like to recognize the generous support of their sponsors, without whom the 2013 summer and fall seasons would not be possible: Jeff & Debbie Ferlazzo of Re/Max Allegiance; Armstrong Management; Chantilly Midas; the Mike and Manu Team of Weichert Realtors; Diesel Doctor; Virid Incorporated; Bobby G’s Disc Jockey; Mike Garcia Construction; the Compass School; Baby2Teen Furniture; Glory Day’s Grill; Occoquan Lodge #301; Express Garage Door; Sweet Creations Frozen Yogurt of Bristow; Masterpiece Mail Marketing; Hollins Associates CPAs; Asha Public Relations; Prospero’s Books; Welch, Graham & Ogden Insurance; Main Street Landscape; Real Estate Results LLC; the Bassette Real Estate Group; Contract Solutions, Inc; Gaeltek LLC; and NOVEC.

Inspired by local physicians who were among the nation’s first to adopt the concierge medicine model, Northern Virginia is now a hub for its surging popularity. These leading physicians are redefining the patient experience with same-day appointments, direct availability, unhurried visits, and deeply personalized care:

After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains. “Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.”

Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. “I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, “My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”
