Edward Mathias Clark, 84, of Washington took his heavenly journey to reunite with his wife and to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born September 23, 1928 in Rappahannock County to the late Eddie Jackson and Mamie Clark.
Mr. Clark was a happily retired carpenter, the eldest member of Washington Baptist Church and a founding member of Washington Volunteer Fire Department. He loved running with the rescue squad and received an award in 2003 for his outstanding contributions with the Rappahannock County Fire and Rescue. In 2009 he received the lifetime member award for Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Mr. Clark greatly enjoyed watching the Washington Nationals and the Washington Redskins. In his younger years he enjoyed playing Baseball, hunting and fishing but as time went on he simply enjoyed observing the wildlife. He loved camping and mowing his lawn.
He is survived by two daughters; Ruth Ann Clark Foster and her husband, Charles T. and Sarah Clark Miller and her husband, Kenneth E., both of Washington; two sisters; Louise Bennett and Vergie Walters; and four grandchildren, John “Richie” Eastham, Jr., Edie Ouellette, Amanda Brown and Bobbie Jo Brown.
Additional survivors include eleven great grandchildren; Samantha Keyes, Robert Falls, Julius Eastham, Megan Eastham, Malik Brown, Carter Brown, Thomas Starks, Malachi Brown, Nolan Brown, Bentley Brown, Ryland Brown; and one great great grandchild, Raleigh Jane Keyes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, and other members of his family that he was very proud of.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth Edna Frazier Clark; and seven siblings.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 4, 2013 from 4 to 6 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 2 pm at The Washington Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Walt Childress and Rev. John Burke officiating.
Interment will follow in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Richard Eastham, Jr., Robert Falls, Tim Settle, Keith Settle, Jerry Clark, Jimmy Beatty and Greg Dodson. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Simmons, Richard Eastham, Ann Speiker, Bobby Foster and Billy Atkins.
