As part of the Manassas Civil War Weekend on Aug. 23-25, the Manassas Museum will offer talks from well-known speakers on Civil War topics. Below is a list of speakers and topics to be featured free on the lawn of the Manassas Museum.Â
Featured speaker and internationally-known Civil War Expert James “Bud” Robertson will speak on Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. about, Stonewall Jackson, Death and Birth of a Legend. On Aug. 25 at 11 a.m., Robertson will speak about his newest book, The Untold Civil War.
Author Don Hakenson will speak about Colonel John S. Mosby, one of the best-known Confederate Civil War raiders, on Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. and about Unknown Engagements in Northern Virginia on Aug. 25 at noon.
West Virginia Independence Hall Site Manager Travis Henline will portray Governor Francis Pierpoint and discuss the establishment of West Virginia as a state on Aug. 24 at 12:45 p.m. and the formation of the restored government of Virginia on Aug. 25 at 1 p.m.
Drew Gruber, who works for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, will discuss Decimus Et Ultimus Barziza, who fought with the famed 4th Texas Infantry, during a first person narrative on Aug. 24 at 11:30 a.m. and Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.
Lillian Garland, a well-known performer, will portray Elizabeth Keckley, a freed slave and close associate of Frederick Douglas. Keckley fought to enhance freedom during the Civil War and helped form the Freedman’s Bureau and the National Home for Colored Women and Children in Washington, D.C.
