STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Authorities an infant died in the care of his babysitter.
Stafford County sheriff’s deputies were called to 1103 Providence Street in in south Stafford on July 13. Fire and rescue crews were already called there after a small child had reportedly fallen.
The babysitter told deputies he was retrieving a bottle of milk for the 17-month-old child the the infant tripped and fell on a tile floor, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Child was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and was later flown to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center for evaluation. Two days later, the child died.

Stafford County Detective Todd Nosal began investigating the incident on July 13 due to the serious nature of the injuries that the baby had sustained. The investigation was presented to a Special Stafford County Grand Jury on Friday, July 26, 2013. The Grand jury issued the indictments against Duc Chau (identified as the babysitter). Mr. Chau turned himself in to detectives at the Sheriff’s Office Monday night, July 29. The investigation has indicated that the 17 month old baby boy, who was under the care of his baby sitter, Duc Chau, died as a result of significant head trauma caused by Duc Chau.
Chau now faces charges:
Duc Chau, 40, of 1103 Providence Street, has been charged with 1 Count of First Degree Murder, 1 Count of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and 2 Counts of Child Abuse in the death of a 17 month old male baby. Duc Chau is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
