MANASSAS, Va. — What’s the power company doing with a freshwater pearl necklace? They will give one away this fall as Manassas’ Utilities Department prepares to celebrate 100 years of service.
The celebration is planned for Saturday Oct. 12, at the Manassas Utilities Building at 8500 Public Works Drive in Manassas, but for the next 100 days starting this month, the utilities agency will begin a series of month-long giveaways for things like flashlights, water bottles, hats, totes, and coffee mugs. A few customers could also win restaurant gift certificates, and have a shot at the pearls.
More from Manassas Utilities:
A random set of Manassas utility customers could receive flashlights, water bottles, hats, coffee mugs or beach totes in July and August and September, while a few, fortunate customers will win grand-prize giveaways in October, leading up to the Oct. 12 celebration, including four restaurant gift cards from Manassas, Va.-based Carmellos, City Square Café and Monza, valued at $50 each; and one 17-inch freshwater pearl necklace and 7-inch bracelet with sterling silver clasps from Ashby Jewelers of Manassas, Va. For information, go to manassascity.org.
In mid July, some Manassas utilities customers will be selected to win $50 gift cards, and some will be randomly selected to win the set of pearls.
The 100-year celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will feature a catered lunch by Bad to the Bone in Gainesville, as well as a live band performance by “Shake it Up” from Manassas.
