There’s new information this morning about a police officer who was struck on Va. 28 in Manassas. Now, a driver faces charges
Here’s more in an unedited press release:
At approximately 9:00 a.m. on July 13, 2013 a Manassas City Police Officer was struck by a vehicle while conducting a routine traffic stop on Rt 28 near Phoenix Dr.
According to witnesses, the Officer was speaking to the driver of a stopped vehicle on the 8700 block of Centreville Rd when a black Ford swerved off the road and struck both her and the stationary vehicle. The driver of the Ford then voluntarily came to a stop on Phoenix Dr where he was met by responding units. The Officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Alexander M. Bacon (25) of 2559 Peter Jefferson Lane, Herndon, VA 20171 was charged with Texting While Driving, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended Operator’s License (3rd Offense), and Failure to Proceed with Caution or Yield to Right of Way by Lane Change Lane to Stationary Vehicle Displaying Flashing Blue, Red, or Amber Lights. He was held on a $5,000.00 secured bond and has a pending court date of September 9, 2013.

A police investigation has closed a portion of Va. 28 north at Phoenix Drive, the site of where a Manassas police officer was struck by another car this morning.
It happened 9 a.m. near Liberia Avenue while the officer was conducting a routine traffic stop, said police spokeswoman Adrienne Helms.
The officer is said to have suffered non-life threatening injuries.
One lane of northbound Va. 28 at the crash site will be closed for “several hours” while an investigation gets underway. Police did not say if the driver suspected of striking the officer is in custody.

MANASSAS, Va. — A Manassas police officer was struck by a car this morning while writing a ticket for another driver.
The female officer is said to have suffered non-life threatening injuries but was taken to a Fairfax Innova’s level one trauma center.
We’re still working on bringing you more information as to when and where the incident took place. A city spokeswoman said the police department is working on a press statement.
The incident comes more than six months after Prince William police Officer Chris Yung was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle while riding his police motorcycle near Manassas.
