STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A couple swimming in the Rappahannock River this afternoon saw a body floating in the water.

The Stafford Sheriff’s office was called to the area of Old Mill Park in Fredericksburg where the body was discovered.

The body was pulled from the water and was taken to a medical examiner’s office in Richmond where it was identified, said Stafford Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

Authorities at this time will only say the body is that of a male. An official identification is on hold as authorities work to notify next of kin, said Kennedy.

Stafford authorities have jurisdiction of the river. We’ll bring you more as we have it.
