Portion of Aden Road Closing This Weekend as Part of Ongoing Bridge Work

NOKESVILLE, Va. — As road closures go in sleepy Nokesville, this one could be major.

Part of Aden Road will close between 3 a.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Monday, between Orlando Road and Parkgate Drive, for work to replace an aging bridge over Cedar Run. A detour will be posted in the area for drivers to follow, but the Virginia Department of Transportation hopes that by doing the bridge replacement work at night there will be less of an impact on drivers.

“We are not going to do a long-term detour because it’s too disruptive – 4,700 vehicles a day use Aden (about 3,000 per day on the weekend). So the plan is to do close the road on weekends only,” said VDOT spokeswoman Joan Morris.

Message signs are posted on Aden Road warning drivers of this weekend’s closure. Another detour is planned in August, and Morris said drivers will be alerted ahead of time prior to the closure.

The bridge replacement is expected to cost $2.2 million and should be finished in December.

A mostly rural drive, Aden Road links the village of Nokesville to the Prince William County Public Schools administration center at Va. 234 and Bristow Road, about 10 miles away.
