MANASSAS, Va. — Manassas will celebrate is rail heritage this Saturday at, appropriately enough, the 19th Annual Manassas Railway Heritage Festival.
The annual event draws thousands to the Civil War city for live music, family-friendly entertainment, displays of farm equipment and, of course, train rides.
The train excursions take passengers from the still bustling Manassas Train Depot (which is used each weekday as a commuter rail and Amtrak station) to Clifton and back via a Virginia Railway Express Train.
“Imagine the thrill of boarding a train with your young enthusiast, and experiencing our beautiful city through their eyes as the world goes ticking by, both changed and unchanged by time. To take a train is to embark on a journey, and that journey begins in Manassas,” VRE stated in an email.
The railway festival is free to attend, and train rides will cost you $5 per person for a roundtrip ticket.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The folks at Historic Manassas Inc. were nice enough to compile a list of this weekend’s features and entertainment on their website.
