MANASSAS, Va. — Fire crews in Manassas on Monday night were called to battle a blaze in the 9000 block of Sandalwood Drive, near the intersection of Grant Avenue and Wellington Road.
The fire broke out about 9:45 p.m. in a second story bedroom inside the home. It was brought under control within the first 10 minutes of fire crews arriving on the scene, stated Manassas spokeswoman Patty Prince in press release.
It took fire crews longer to, a total of four hours, to extinguish hot spots. The fire appears to have started when a battery from a laptop computer left on a bed overheated, igniting linens, stated Prince. The damage to the property is said to be $40,000.
Three people who escaped the fire are now being assisted by the American Red Cross.
