Comcast Eliminates 80 Jobs at Manassas Call Center

MANASSAS, Va. –– Comcast will move 80 call center jobs away from Manassas in a consolidation of the cable company’s regional operations.

The jobs will move to two other Comcast call centers in Maryland, one in Silver Spring and the other in White Marsh. The move will take effect September 7, and those employees impacted by the change currently answer Comcast customers’ questions about billing and adding new services.

“We will be working with employees impacted by these changes to help them apply for other available positions, including more than 400 positions available in Comcast’s Beltway Region, and our hope is that most will be able to transition to new positions here or elsewhere within the company,” said Comcast spokeswoman Aimee Metrick.

The move comes after the company has already consolidated its operations in Prince William County, closing offices in Dumfries, and consolidating an office on Center Street in Manassas and moving operations to the the nearby call center that will be impacted by the loss of 80 jobs. A customer center on Dale Boulevard in Dale City remains open.

After the call center jobs leave Manassas, 110 jobs will remain at the call center. Those positions include those who work in Comcast’s business services division and technical operations, said Metrick. A TV production studio also sits inside the Manassas complex.

Comcast employs 5,300 people in the Washington area, stated Metrick.
