MANASSAS, Va. – More threatening notes that have appeared in neighborhoods in Manassas have police once again searching for clues.
The notes have appeared 18 times since December at various homes in the city. No one has been hurt.
The first wave of threatening notes – several of which included “kill” in the text – prompted a police investigation into the matter. A second wave of notes appeared earlier this month.
Sgt. Lowell Nevill says Manassas police will soon have a composite sketch of the note-leaving suspect, the image taken from a description of a neighbor. That person was described to be a male between the ages of 20 and 30-years-old, between 5 feet four inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall.
The notes left have all been the size of a writing tablet, written in pen with poor grammar and disjointed sentence fragments, and have been left inside a door at the homes. Why police don’t know why the homes have been targeted, and the letters all have included a return address in Prince William County. The person who lives there has been questioned by detectives who are unable to find any link between the address and the suspect.
“Why is this person picking this particular name and address? We don’t know at this point,” said Nevill.
Whoever is leaving the notes has yet to come back to the same house twice, Nevill added.
Investigators have recovered fingerprints and have had assistance from area crime labs in reviewing the evidence.
The case has sparked wide interest within the community on whose behind the notes. Police have held meetings with homeowners associations urging neighbors to say something if they see something or someone in their neighborhoods who looks out of place.
