Fatal VRE Incidents Appear to be Suicides

DUMFRIES, Va. — Prince William police said two men recently struck by Virginia Railway Express trains during two separate incidents appeared to be suicidal.

Police told Fredericksburg.com that a 44-year-old man jumped in front of an oncoming train at the Cherry Hill Peninsula near Dumfries Nov. 5.

Police identified the man as 44-year-old Micheal Gullo.

Another is believed to have jumped in front of an oncoming VRE train the railroad’s Manasas line on Oct. 10.

These are the first two fatal incidents in VRE’s 20-year history.
