A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking along railroad tracks about two-tenths a mile north of Tim Rivershore Restaurant and Crabhouse.
The popular restaurant sits in an isolated spot along the Potomac River and railroad line on Prince William County’s Cherry Hill Peninsula near Dumfries.
Virginia Railway Express officials said Train 311 bound for Fredericksburg fatally struck the pedestrian who was walking on the tracks about 7:30 p.m.
Police on the scene have just given the green light for trains to begin moving through the area once more, said VRE spokesman Mark Roeber.
About 250 people remain on the stalled Train 311 following its collision with the pedestrian. Train 313 bound for Fredericksburg will pull alongside the stalled train and will take on the stranded passengers so they can continue their commute.
Two Amtrak trains, 66 and 125 that were both stopped south of the collision scene, will also be allowed to move through the area, said Roeber.
