LAKE RIDGE, Va. — The annual Homecoming Parade for Woodbridge Senior High School will begin earlier this year.
In a statement from Prince William Occoquan District Supervisor Mike May, the school will begin lining up the parade floats and cars about 4 p.m. Friday Oct. 12, but the parade will begin a bit earlier this year to avoid impacting the height of the afternoon rush on Old Bridge Road.
Many students and parents at Woodbridge were concerned after a rumor began floating around that the Virginia Department of Transportation denied this year’s request for a permit to hold the parade. The rumor was untrue, as transportation officials asked the school to reconsider the parade route.
May stated he met with the school principal David Huckestein and, after much discussion, formulated the plan to start the parade earlier in the afternoon.
Huckestein has not returned a request for comment for this story. Woodbridge’s Homecoming Football Game will also be held on Oct. 12, and an annual Homecoming Dance will be held the following evening.

After almost 40 years in practice, Manassas-based Internist John Cary, MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual, and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes. “The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains. “Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up. As I tell my patients, we are in this together.”
Jay Tyroler, MD considers his patients quite literally as family. “I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick, or scared, or feeling vulnerable, and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral, urgent health issue or ongoing follow up, “My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”
