Step Father Charged in Child Shooting Death

Accidental Shooting Investigation *ARREST – On August 8th, after consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, detectives from the Violent Crimes Bureau charged the accused in regard to the accidental shooting which occurred in the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge from July 25. The investigation revealed that the accused, the victim’s step-father, had left a loaded handgun in another family member’s unsecured vehicle which was parked in front of the residence. The victim was able to get into the vehicle and found the handgun which accidentally discharged.

Arrested:

Jasmine Darnell MATTHEWS, 27, of the 14800 block of Empire St in Woodbridge

Charged with cruelty and injuries to children

Court date unavailable, released on a $20,000 unsecured bond
