OCCOQUAN, Va. — Historic Occoquan will be home to a 5K run and walk this weekend, to benefit the Washington Regional Transplant Community.
Dubbed “The Race to Donate Life,” the event will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday but events associated with the run/walk will start as early as 7:30 a.m. This is the first time the event has been held, and the first time Occoquan has been chosen to hold the event.
Runners and walkers of any skill level are all welcome to participate. There is a $30 registration fee for adults and a $5 fee for children 12 and younger. All proceeds will benefit programs that raise awareness about eye, tissue, and organ donations, according to the Washington Regional Transplant Community.
After the event, Mayor Earnie Porta urged participants to stick around and enjoy lunch specials at various restaurants throughout the village.
