WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Prince William County Board of County Supervisors will hold an Armed Forces & Memorial Day ceremony at the War Memorial in Freedom Park on Saturday, May 19 at 2 p.m.
The ceremony will honor the men and women who serve our Country and remember all of those who lost their lives defending our freedoms. This year the county will honor the following who lost their lives defending our country: Sean T. Callahan, Sean R. Cutsforth and Robert M. Kelly. The public is invited to attend.
The Prince William County War Memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day in 1992 to recognize those from our County who gave their lives during World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The County honored those individuals by engraving their names onto the memorial.
In 2006, the County worked with local veterans to find the best way to honor those who had given their lives in the Middle East. It was decided to engrave the opposing face of the stone with the names of members from our community that have been killed in Iran, on the USS Cole, in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Freedom Park is located on the grounds of the McCoart Government Complex in between the complex and Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge. Freedom Park also includes a memorial fountain dedicated to those in the community who died in the attacks on September 11, 2001.
