DALE CITY, Va. — Water and sewer rates could be going up for customers in eastern Prince William County.
Virginia American Water wants to raise rates by 15.9 percent for customers in the state. Customers in Prince William County could be hit hard by the increase, as the utility wants to raise rates in the portion of the county it serves by nearly 25 percent, according to a press release from the Prince William County government.
âThe Board of County Supervisors opposes this rate increase and encourages all affected residents to voice their opposition, as they had great success last year when VAW attempted to substantially increase their rates,â the press release states.
Customers who would be affected live in the Dale City area, and those residents are also urged to share their concerns with thier county supervisors Marty Nohe and John Jenkins.
The utility has set a public hearing on the proposed rate increase in Richmond on Sept. 25 at 10 a.m., in the State Corporation Commissionâs Tyler Building, at 1300 East Main Street.
Residents who wish to participate in the public hearing but cannot attend the meeting can also submit comments online.

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FXBGO!) announced that transit service, which was suspended on Tuesday due to winter weather, is expected to resume at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Residents relying on public transportation are encouraged to plan accordingly and check for updates before traveling.
In addition to transit disruptions, the cityâs trash collection schedule has been adjusted. Mondayâs missed routes resumed today, and services will shift forward by one day for the remainder of the week. Tuesdayâs trash will be collected on Wednesday, Wednesdayâs on Thursday, and so on.
The City of Fredericksburgâs Public Works Department continues its efforts to clear snow and ice from roadways. Primary collector roads are reported to be in good condition, but some residential and collector roads remain compacted with snow and ice. Crews are applying plowing and chemical treatments as necessary to address these areas. As temperatures drop overnight, roads may refreeze, and drivers are urged to exercise caution when traveling.
The City also reminds property owners and occupants of their obligation to clear sidewalks adjacent to their properties. Snow and ice must be removed within 12 hours after snowfall ends, or by noon the following day if precipitation occurs overnight or on a Sunday. Sand or abrasives may be used if removal isnât feasible. Residents and businesses are also responsible for clearing ADA access ramps to ensure safe pedestrian passage.
