STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A proposal that aimed to ban through trucks on portions of two rural roads in Stafford County has failed.
Though the measure had support from residents who live along Truslow and Enon roads in Stafford County where the proposed ban aimed to limit trucks, representatives from trucking companies in the county said banning trucks along these roads – which are used as cut-through routes to avoid more congested roads like Interstate 95 and U.S. 1 — would mean truck drivers would sit in traffic longer and would burn more fuel.
The Stafford County Board of Supervisors was scheduled to take up the proposed ban again Tuesday after it was tabled during a discussion last month. But before any attention was given to the agenda item Tuesday, officials simply deleted it from their agenda.
“It was one of those things where I didn’t properly gauge public reaction before moving forward with the proposal,” said Hartwood District Supervisor Gary Snellings, who proposed the restrictions.
Last month Snellings said he was concerned about drivers who travel back and forth between the two schools in the proposed restriction area – Stafford Senior High School and Gayle Middle School.
The proposed ban included a portion of Enon Road between U.S. 1 and Truslow Road, and Truslow Road between Enon and Berea Church roads.
