North Stafford, Va. -- On Thursday, March 1, General Excavation Inc., will begin to mobilize equipment and erect construction signs on the east and westbound side of Route 610; on the north and southbound side of Mine Road (Route 684); and along any connecting secondary routes in the vicinity of the project. The $975,443.00 project will add additional turn lanes and improve pedestrian access on Mine Road in Stafford County.
General Excavation Inc. will widen Mine Road by adding an additional right turn lane from Mine Road onto Route 610 east. There will also be an additional left turn lane on Route 610 south turning onto Mine Road. Other improvements to be made in connection with this project include, three handicap ramps at the intersections of Route 610 and Mine Road; a sidewalk will be installed along the northbound turn lane of Mine Road which will connect with the sidewalk on the eastbound lane of Route 610; and pedestrian buttons will be added to the existing traffic signal poles at the intersection.
In the next few weeks, motorists can expect a single lane closure to be in effect from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Mine Road near the Route 610 at the intersection and on Route 610 from the Mine Road intersection to just east of I-95. Beginning at 10 p.m., two lanes will be closed in the same locations. All travel lanes will be open at 4 a.m.
