Cold temperatures tonight will give way to sleet and freezing rain, weather forecasters said.
Sleet, freezing rain and ice could develop Friday night into early Saturday morning from a weather system that will impact the Potomac Communities. The latest forecast from the National Weather Service states little or no ice accumulation is expected, but we’ve seen those forecasts change before.
Off to the west along Virginia’s Interstate 81 corridor, some counties there are under a winter storm watch as some snow accumulation is expected there. Don’t count on any snow accumulation in the Potomac Communities from this storm, according to the weather service.
Temperatures in the area are expected to drop below freezing tonight but rise into the upper 30s on Saturday, changing whatever frozen precipitation that falls into rain.
