Crime Watch: Brakes Cut on Woman, Child’s Car

Dale City, Va. — A woman and her child were inside a car with brakes that had been cut, police said. Now one man faces charges.

Police were called to the 4100 block of Wind Flower Court at 9:46 a.m. Friday to investigate when the victim told police her brakes had been tampered with. Unaware of the faulty brakes, the 23-year-old woman and her 2-year-old boy got into the car and started driving, but the brakes were unresponsive.

The woman was able to safely bring the car to a stop without damaging it, said police.

Through their investigation, police determined their suspect was an acquaintance of the victim.

Kevin Christian Reilly, 36, of 14036 Fallbrook Lane in Dale City is charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding, vehicle tampering and with destruction of property, said police. He was held on a $5,000 bond.
