Owner demands truck, faces charges
A man who fled police at a high rate of speed later came to the sheriff’s office looking for his truck, authorities said.
A Stafford’s sheriff’s deputy patrolling the area near Widewater Road saw a truck speed pass him about 7:20 p.m. Saturday. The deputy followed the truck but eventually lost sight of it, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
The deputy then asked other drivers in the area if they saw a speeding car go by, and drivers told him they saw a truck that had turned its lights off and drove by.
The deputy turned onto nearby Tamerlane Drive where he saw a man walking toward him, said Kennedy. That man turned out to be the passenger in the truck who police questioned to find out information on the driver.
The driver of the truck crashed the truck on a nearby property and fled the scene, said Kennedy. Deputies posted a look out for the man at area hospitals for anyone who might come in injured, but their search turned up nothing.
But police didn’t have to go far because the driver of the truck came to the sheriff’s office looking to pick up his vehicle which had been towed, said Kennedy.
Michael Shoemaker, 18, of Stafford, is charged with felony hit and run in connection to Saturday’s incident, said Kennedy.
Woman charged with embezzlement
Authorities have charged a woman after money from a convenience store in North Stafford went missing.

Stafford sheriff’s authorities said the owner of a 7-Eleven at 882 Garrisonville Road reported money going missing from the register between Dec. 1 and Dec. 14.
It turns out a store employee was correctly charging customers for their items, but after they left the store would void the item in the register and would pocket the cash, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.
Deena Harper, 29, of Midland, Va., is charged with embezzlement. She was held on $1,500 bond and held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail, said Kennedy.
NASCAR ornament stolen
After several statues of Christ have turned up missing in Fredericksburg, a man in North Stafford reports a Christmas ornament depicting one of the kings if NASCAR racing had gone missing: an inflatable Dale Earnhardt Christmas decoration.
The decorations that were outside the man’s home on Bruce Street went missing sometime between Dec. 14 and Dec. 17, said Kennedy.
The ornament was valued at $129.00. Police have asked anyone with information to call if they know where the ornament sped off to.
