Dumfries, Va. — Some local authors encourage you give the gift of literature this holiday season, and they’re hoping you gift their books.
Twelve authors who live or work in Prince William County all have published books this holiday season. They can range from short stories to novels.
“Approching Felonias Park,” by Katherine Mercurio Gotthardt, chronicles the story of a woman who has been abused, lives in poverty, and has become a victim of predatory lending – a theme that deals with the recent foreclosure crisis that was felt all too well in Prince William.
More than the authors’ passion for writing, these local publishers also relish in being published on a national scale. They’ve formed a meet up group called “Write by the Rails,” from where this local list of authors was born and continues to grow.
“Several of the writers, like Robert Bausch and Carole Bellacera, many of us are familiar with and have enjoyed their writing for years. Others are emerging writers,” said one of the group’s founders, Cindy Brookshire. “As a member of the new networking group, Write by the Rails, I compiled the list to bring attention to the thriving literary community in Prince William. I’m hoping other writers will join us on Facebook or join the Prince William Arts Council as an individual artist and take advantage of the benefits they offer.”
The meet-up group, which has a permanent group page on Facebook, is planning its next event in the Potomac Communities, at Dec. 14 at Emonis Dessert Bar and Café.
