Virginia Railway Express had its best on time month ever in October.

VRE trains ran on time 98 percent of the time last month, a first for the 19-year-old transit agency. Officials credit new locomotives and railcars for the on time improvements, as well as changes to the operations at VRE’s host railroads – CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern.

“Second, VRE, in conjunction with the Commonwealth and host railroads CSX and NS, made significant investments in the railroad infrastructure to improve capacity and operational efficiency. VRE also focused on improved proficiency and customer service through its new operator, Keolis. All of these factors combined have resulted in the outstanding service being seen today,” said VRE Chairwoman Sharon Bulova.

CSX Corp owns the tracks on VRE’s Fredericksburg line and Norfolk Southern on VRE’s Manassas line.

Of the 600 trains VRE operated last month, just 11 of them were delayed. A train is considered late if it is delayed by five minutes or more.
