Stafford, Va. –– State politicians are taking notice of a landslide that continues to creep closer to two Stafford homes.
Sen. Richard Stuart (R-Stafford) came to Brush Everard Court in the Austin Ridge neighborhood to tour the damage, and to tell homeowners the state is looking into possible financial assistance for homeowners to help repair the failed land behind their homes.
As Stuart talked with the homeowners, geotechnical work got underway so an engineering firm can determine what it will take to stabilize the land and begin to repair it. The firm will examine the depth and movement of the landslide at a cost of $15,000, which will be paid for by a fund set up at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
The landslide developed Sept. 10 after the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee dumped large amounts of rain over the area. Homeowners said this is not the first time the land behind their homes failed, and attempts to get the developer of the property to meet with the owners failed after he declined to meet.
