Dale City, Va. –– Wind and rain was not enough to keep away supporters of Del. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Dale City) for his campaign kick off Saturday.
He, along with former Virginia Governor and U.S. Senate candidate George Allen fired up the crowd talking about the differences between Washington and Richmond.
“Our nation is in peril. There are people that believe today that the constitution is nothing more than a nice collection of suggestions. Folks, the constitution is not a collection of suggestions it is the law of this land,” said Lingamfelter.
He went onto blast national healthcare passed into law by President Obama.
“Obama care fight is not about healthcare. It’s about your constitution, it’s about your freedom…you take the word healthcare out of that bill and you can substitute the word ‘GM car,’ ‘Brussels sprouts,’ ‘bow ties,’ where you’re going to live. When the government can tell you what you’re going to buy they can tell you just about anything they want and folks they’ve got it all backward,” he said.
Lingamfelter has represented Virginia’s 31st House District since 2002 and on Saturday praised Gov. Robert McDonnell for passing legislation authored by Lingamfelter that audited state agencies.
“We passed the audit bill, the audit bill is at work here in Virginia and we are finding waste, fraud and abuse,” said Ligamfelter. Last year, McDonnell announced an audit of the Virginia Department of Transportation that revealed $500 million in unspent funds.
Lingamfelter during the 2011 General Assembly this year sponsored an E-Verify bill similar to the one supported by Del. Richard Anderson (R-Lake Ridge) that was passed which will require state agencies to check legal status of employees by June 1.
In March, Lingamfelter was instrumental in prompting Virginia State Police to remove homeless campers whom for years had lived in the wooded areas of a cloverleaf section of Interstate 95 and Dale Boulevard.
