Several events are taking place this afternoon and weekend at Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge.

Dino Days
Date: Friday, August 5, 2011

Time: 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Location: Visitor Center

Description: Walk in the footsteps of the dinosaurs! Come to the Visitor Center to excavate fossils, try to out run a T-Rex, and design your own dinosaur. Fee is $2/person, $6/family

Junior Rangers Camp-Out
Date: Friday, August 5, 2011

Time: 7:30pm-?

Location: Campground 1

Description: Only Junior Ranger alumni are invited.

Hike for the Cause
Date: Saturday, August 6, 2011

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Location: Visitor Center

Description: Hike 4 miles on our trails to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. There will be activity tables, prizes from local sponsors, and informational tables about the cause. Inquire at the Visitor Center for Registration forms or email [email protected]. Registration fee is $25. Hikers can pay online prior to the hike by clicking here.

Kids Fishing Tournament
Date: Saturday, August 6, 2011

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Location: Marina in lot# 1

Description: Join us in our kids fishing tournament and see what you can catch. There is some fishing equipment that participants can borrow, but we encourage folks to bring their own. There are several volunteers on hand to give participants help. Sponsored by the Friends of Leesylvania State Park.

Colonial Children’s Games
Date: Saturday, August 6, 2011

Time: 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Location: Visitor Center

Description: Come down to the Visitor Center to see what games children used to play during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Play a few innings of Town Ball. Race hoops against each other and play a game of catch called Graces. Appropriate for children 4 years old and up.

Lee’s Woods Historic Hike
Date: Sunday, August 7, 2011

Time: 2 sessions – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Lee’s Woods Trailhead

Description: Take a walk through the woods with a ranger and get to know the unique history of the land now known as Leesylvania State Park. You will see historic sites from the 1700’s and the 1800’s along this 2 mile trail. Meet at the Lee’s Woods Trailhead.

The Buggy Night Life
Date: Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Time: 3 Sessions – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Visitor Center

Description: When the sun goes down many insects come out to play. We’ll be taking a close look at fireflies, moths, and other bugs that stay up all night. Join us at the Visitor Center for fun, games, and bugs! Fee is $2/person, $6/family

Geology Rocks!
Date: Thursday, August 11, 2011

Time: 3 Sessions – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Visitor Center

Description: Take the time to pause and get to know your local rocks better. Join us at the Visitor Center to see how rocks form, take a closer look at crystals, and break open your own geodes! Fee is $2/person, $6/family
